Italy 2019

Introduction: Santiago de Compostela Day 1 Saturday 9/21/2019

Here we sit at the airport in Santiago, Spain.  We have just completed the Portuguese Camino, a walk of about 400 miles.  We arrived yesterday afternoon, got our hotel, ate supper, and got a good night’s sleep.  Our plane leaves for Italy at 9:25 PM.  We are here at 1:00 PM.  When we decided to check out of the Hotel Universal it was raining.  It is supposed to rain all day.  We asked each other if we wanted to walk around in town in the rain or just go on to the airport.  Since we had seen Santiago when we walked the French Camino last year, and walked around the town for several days, and felt like we had seen enough—you can’t see it all in a few days—-but we both decided to head to the airport. Portuguese Camino de Santiago

Yes, we are going back to the Camino. No, it is not the same one. Yes, we will end up in Santiago again, but we will start in Lisbon, Portugal. On this Camino we will only be walking 400 miles instead of 500. The question may come up “Why”? That question has surfaced in our conversations a few times, but it is almost a rhetorical question that leads to the next question, “Why not”?  I’m not sure we could make anyone understand the “why” answers. It was just a life changing experience that you would just have to experience yourself.  You can’t really describe the spiritual experience that it becomes. Kari’s Senior Trip

This year our oldest grand-daughter is graduating from high school. Dereatha and I told her that we would give her a senior trip for her graduation gift. All that she had to do was choose where she wanted to visit. She asked what her choices were, and we told her that she could go to any country in the world. She decided that she wanted to go to Europe. After a short geography lesson, she decided that she wanted to visit London and Paris. They were not very far apart so we said that would make a good trip. The fun will begin June 12, 2019. We will first fly to Newark, New Jersey and then to London where we will spend six days. From London, we will take the train beneath the English Channel to Paris.  The three of us will write portions of the blog from our perspectives. This should be a fun trip, and we invite you all to go along with us via this blog. We will begin the updates when the trip begins.

ISRAEL 2018

It has been about a year since we made the decision to go on a mission trip with the Church of the Highlands Auburn campus. We were having lunch with the campus pastor and he invited us to go along and visit Israel. I went to Israel in 1970 with my uncle who was a pastor and when I returned, I

promised Dereatha that one day I would take her. Well this is the year that I will fulfill that promise. I also promised her that I would never go on another trip without her, and I haven’t. It just isn’t enjoyable when you keep thinking, I wish Dereatha was with me so that she could see what I am seeing. Continue reading “ISRAEL 2018”

Wyoming Wedding Adventure 2017

Day 1 Tuesday: 390.2 miles and prep day 100 miles

In preparation for our trip, we stopped off to get Dete’s heated jacket wired up.  Cox’s stopped what they were doing and got her ready to go.  Cox’s Harley Davidson is the best.  We then rode to Brad and Keasha’s house to see everyone before we left.  Those Grand hugs are the best. So we actually left from King, NC at 8:15 this morning and traveled to Columbus, Ohio (actually Powell, OH), to see Doug and Rhonda.  Ohio hugs are not bad either. Christmas Get Away 09 St. Petersburg, FL

Sunday, December 27, 2009

Day One: Sunday 12/27/09

This is not the actual first day of the trip, but it is a day of preparation.  I have checked the weather and it really looks good for the ride.  We are leaving on Tuesday 12/29/09.  It is supposed to be clear for the ride down.  It should take us two days to get there.  The highs should be in the 50’s and there is not supposed to be any rain.

We are going to be there from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday morning.  This means that we will celebrate New Years in St. Pete.  The temperature should be in the upper 50’s to the lower 70’s.  There is a slight chance of some scattered showers.

The trip back is supposed to be dry and comfortable with the temps. in the 50’s.  It was a lot worse traveling conditions last year with cold drizzle going both directions.  So we are upbeat about the conditions for this trip.  However, the weather can change when you are traveling on a bike.
